As someone who’s reported alt-right harassment and rhetoric on various
social media sites and been told “there’s nothing here that violates our
TOS,” seeing what RPGnet is doing is a welcome breath of fresh air.

weird how I became a much more compassionate and accepting person when I realised that drug addiction is the symptom of a problem and not the problem in itself

you also start to realise just how much the War On Drugs was actually a war against the poor, against survivors, against trans people, against sex workers, against the mentally ill and the disabled, against PoC, against queers, against the homeless. how much of it was a government manufactured ploy to sell violence against the marginalized as violence against addiction, as if addiction was not a symptom of systemic abuse.

It’s true and you should say it.

There was a preacher group at my university today trying to spout their anti-LGBT hate. And while I’m thrilled that people shat all over them with memes and loud music and all, I noticed a lot of atheists trying to engage with them using all the early 2010s youtube talking points. “God is just Space Santa! Theists are stupid! Problem of Evil, checkmate idiots!” It’s a pretty tired debate and really not particularly interesting. We’ve heard all of it before, and honestly it just feels like a debate for petty-bourgeois liberals to congratulate themselves and overlook how the overwhelming majority of the world’s working poor is religious for very valid reasons. “We only have one life and that’s beautiful enough” is an argument for comfortable people, for well-off people who don’t have to deal with crushing poverty and exploitation. Not in every case, sure, but you’re lying to yourself if you think “one life is enough” is a sentiment that people could actually get behind, especially in this hell timeline of global inequality and fascism and such.

I’d much rather see a debate between a Christian socialist and a reactionary fundamentalist, if I’m being honest. Religion probably isn’t going anywhere for a while, so it’s a better use of your time to radicalize it. There are undeniably left-wing elements to religion and spirituality (even as the institutions that presume to speak for them support the right-wing status quo): selflessness, solidarity, lots of anti-capitalist and anti-rich sentiment if you know where to look. Besides, much of new atheism has been center-right for a long time anyway, fueled by the elitist xenophobic rhetoric of Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins.

I’m definitely not trying to say that atheism in itself is reactionary; it’s absolutely not and there are still all kinds of injustices associated with religion and religious institutions. I’m just super wary of atheists who turn the conversation into a contest that just reinforces the liberal capitalist/imperialist rationale and condescends to people throughout the world whose religions are inseparable from their cultures (often cultures which have historically been persecuted and oppressed, I might add). The worst aspects of religion are social outgrowths of class inequality and harsh conditions, and new atheists don’t ever really want to acknowledge this fact; it’s always just faith and mysticism in and of themselves being the regressive force. They ignore how both religions and secularism have each been progressive forces, just as they’ve also been reinforcements of the status quo. Who’s using them and for what endgoal are usually the more relevant questions.

TLDR: Etymological debates between theists and atheists about the existence of a higher power are usually just examples of running-in-place liberalism. The juicy conversations are about how society is structured and how we can ground philosophies of all stripes in a revolutionary potential that seeks justice for all people. Socialism is philosophically- and spiritually-diverse or it’s nothing.

Man found the stoplight cameras were activated during yellow lights and decided to cut the wires of it.

Florida Man: Chaotic evil.
New York Man: Chaotic good.

Holy shit. Nah dude look up the entire story, it’s INSANE.

The dude got arrested once before this for using a painter’s extension rod to point the stoplight cameras into the sky instead of cutting the wires. He didn’t cut the wires until AFTER he got out after being arrested the first time–which he did after posting facebook videos that prove that the stoplights are intentionally rigged to trick drivers into citations–the yellow lights at intersections with cameras only last THREE SECONDS, as opposed to the five seconds they last at other stoplights without cameras in the same county.

When he cut the camera cords, he reported his deeds to the news -himself,- and then politicians pressured the local police force into arresting him. The local police and sheriff deputies actually SUPPORT him for his actions because the lights have been killing innocent people! During his most recent arrest, one of the Sheriff’s Deputies actually -offered to bail him out-.

When he got home again after these incidents, there was a surveillance camera planted at his house BY THE GOVERNMENT to watch him! His reaction to being surveilled? He painted over the camera in America’s flat out fucking ballsiest “fuck you” to the gubmint I’ve ever heard of.

And it gets EVEN CRAZIER. After painting over the camera, suddenly this guy–his name is Stephen Ruth by the way–started GETTING ATTEMPTS ON HIS LIFE. He reports that a car intentionally tried to hit him in a head-on collision, and after talking about the car to his neighbors, they confirmed that the car in question (Or at least, one that was visibly identical, its occupants included) had been staking out his house! Somebody was legitimately trying to MURDER HIM over his discovery and his actions!

As a final insult to injury, Ruth pointed out that the VAST majority of the cameras were found SPECIFICALLY in lower-to-middle-class neighborhoods. As well, the victims of these rigged stoplights tried to go to the local news station to talk about the deaths of their family members that occurred from the rigging. Aaaand… The local station, “News12″, never aired their interviews.

Remember how I said that, after cutting the cables and calling the local news station, Ruth was arrested because of pressure from politicians? Get this: News12 is actually owned by CableVision, who PROVIDES INTERNET SERVICE TO THE CAMERAS. 

Whereas mister Ruth was only trying to help people and save lives, he’s been caught up in a full-blown fucking government conspiracy that’s out for his blood. This guy isn’t Robin Hood, he makes Robin Hood look like a -CHUMP-.

This is a modern vigilante.
