I know I’ve said this before but can we please stop calling atheists who used to be Christians “Christian atheists”? People who’ve left Christianity often had to do a considerable amount of soul searching, alienate themselves from their friends and family, and completely reconstruct their understanding of the world. Frequently they are survivors of toxic and abusive communities. Yes, in many cases they still approach religion from a perspective that is reminiscent of Christianity’s, but the term “Christian atheist” ignores the fact that they have rejected Christianity, often at personal cost, and that many of them were actively harmed by Christianity.

You’re forgetting the fact that christians need to make themselves feel better about themselves, and the easiest way is to point out the failure of others.  When someone leaves the fold, that is the ultimate betrayal and demonstrates that the leaver has judged those who remain to be wrong.
