I don’t think people quite understand how much money a billion dollars is, let alone 600 billion every year.

So the US military spends 600 billion dollars a year. That averages to about 20,000$ every second.

The US college board estimates that state public colleges cost an average of about 10,000$ per year. The US military budget could pay for 60 million people to go to college. The United States has about 50 million total people of college age. If all of those people went to college for free the amount of money left over would still leave us with the second largest military budget on the planet.

What!!! The!!! fUCK!!!!!

Is this true

No I made up the military industrial complex for notes

There are literally 0 sources on this sorry for asking…..

“In FY 2015, Pentagon and related spending totaled $598 billion, about 54% of the fiscal year 2015 U.S. discretionary budget”

In 2017, the US Military spending was $610 billion.

“A typical four-year public college charged in-state students $9,650 per year” (original pdf source)

China has the second largest military spending, at $228 billion. If the US reduced its spending to $100 billion they would replace China in second place, still well above Saudi Arabia’s $69.4 billion.

And since I dont know exactly what they mean by “college age” I just pulled the numbers from the 2010 US Census, in which there were 30,672,088 people between the ages of 18-24. So if you’re going by that age demographic, the US could pay for every single college age student’s tuition and STILL have the largest military spending in the world.

Thank you!!!!!!!
