From the start of education, we’re told to be kind and fair but then when it comes to the economic system we are a part of, all of those values cease.
In the vast majority of cases, the people who mould our characters (teachers, parents, other authority figures etc) all instill in us the values of fairness, compassion, empathy and understanding.
However, certainly in our current capitalist system, and I think perhaps in almost all capitalist systems, these values are then left by the wayside.
To be “successful” in a capitalist system, you have to be fucking cutthroat. Swindle every penny from every fool you can. That’s how you make it in the free market. Detach yourself from your emotions and exploit every last poor bastard you can. So much for Ms. Smith and her lessons on the value of sharing…
