landlords are scum, idk if you’ve seen anyone talk about it on here but earlier in the year the amount students get from the government while studying in new zealand was increased and landlords immediately put rents up to nab it up for themselves.

it was naked greed, and the state just kinda shrugged it’s shoulders and the media ran a bunch of stories written by landlords, where they’d whine about how much it costs them to maintain properties

I think it needs to be addressed that not all landlords are scum. Those ones are definitely scum for doing something that shitty, but there are good landlords.

it really really doesn’t need to be addressed, i used to think the same thing until my flatmates’ dad, our current landlord, who i thought was pretty cool, asked us how much money you can get in accommodation supplement for beneficiaries and what the cut off is and if there’s a tool we can use to calculate it so he can hike rent on our neighbours and get the social security system to pay for it.

the very act of being a landlord warps your sense of what it is you’re actually doing.

Landlords, like cops, are scum that aren’t redeemable. They do not actually give a fuck about people. They care about themselves and money. When you acquire the kind of power a landlord, a cop, or say a store manager has you loose empathy. You become evil.
