fuck-customers:

So. I work in fast food, which has, you know, fire and oil and…..gas. To cook with.

Well, for the past few days (today is 8/28) I’ve noticed a weird smell in the back, near the broiler, and I thought it was just something the had fallen into a drain and got moldy. Well, turns out I don’t know what gas smells like, because it was the broiler leaking gas. Cut to today, I’m on break, and a coworker comes up and asks if I’ve felt bad since I got there. I say I have, and try to joke about how I’m just unhealthy in general, and she says it’s a gas leak.

And things just….clicked into place. I thought over the last few days, and realized just how many dizzy spells/shortness of breath/headaches/upset stomachs I’ve had while working recently, as well as how bad my anxiety’s been lately. And I just thought, oh, that’s why.

Cue my coworker(Z), her bf(F), me, and one other guy© trying to convince the manager that something was wrong. And oh boy. OOOOOOOH boy. It took hours before the store manager came. Before that, though?

Z and C were pissed. They both went on break and didn’t come back. C was especially pissed bc he’d told someone about the leak days ago but had been ignored.

Meanwhile, F and I were making food and he. Was. Messed. Up. He would start cooking something, then completely forget about it. I had to help him through several orders even though I was feeling sick, too. My hands were shaking half the night and I couldn’t breathe.

But no, the managers insisted it was just a passing car, or we’re just trying to get off work early, or whatever. Because the broiler’s designed to shut off if there is a leak, right? lmao. L. M. F. A. O.

The SM got there and, while they had to get real close to smell it, smell it they did. They shut the broiler off so it wouldn’t leak anymore, then went about doing other manager things. I was moved to drive thru, where I saw my cousin, and told her about it. And can you guess what she said?

She could smell it. She could smell gas, from the passenger seat of a car outside the window. She knows what it smells like, she used to work somewhere that used gas. So it’s just. Aggravating, especially because the managers should know me better by now. They should know I don’t pull this shit.

Four people were sick today. A fifth was sick yesterday. It took hours for them to trust us enough to inspect it, and surprise surprise!!!

We were right.

tldr: gas leak at work made 5 people sick over multiple days, managers said we were faking to get off work
