I want every person who suggests meditation as a solution for ADHD to also try meditating while in a 100 mph rollercoaster

I feel similarly when therapists try to tell me to meditate to manage the anxiety I have as a result of childhood trauma.

I understand that meditation is showing some real good results in research and therapists tend to have a big boner for “evidence based practice” but meditation is not a cure-all for everything. People start at different places.

You can’t ask a person with ADHD to meditate when they are still on a 100 mph rollercoaster. You can’t ask a person with PTSD to meditate away their anxiety when going into their own head means going into their own trauma. You have to meet people where they are and give them tools when they are ready for them. Suggesting meditation to someone who doesn’t currently have the capacity to meditate is just dismissive of their struggles.
