If you don’t mind me asking, how do you keep from burning out? As a leftist (the exact kind changes almost weekly, but…) and a Christian, I try to be involved and keep track of everything happening in politics, but I can’t help but be overwhelmed by it all. The news is always negative and always has been, but nowadays even the leftist blogs I follow seem to be in a constant state of doom and gloom… and then there’s yours, which doesn’t seem to be. Any idea how not to let it all get to you?

Tune it out when you need to! I think that sometimes people feel this weird obligation to be sad, almost, like you aren’t being a good leftist if you aren’t sad about how shitty the world is. This is nonsensical, and self-defeating. Ultimately, we really do only have this one life to live, and we should absolutely make the best of it, and be the happiest that we can be. You don’t have to be sad to be a good leftist. You just have to do the best with what you have.
