honestly do u ever get to a point with a friend where u just realize “holy shit I don’t actually like you, like, at all”
real talk but even ppl who know you real well might not notice when an alter is out unless explicitly told that the alter is out.
like when i transitioned to host, no one noticed. i behaved completely differently, became repulsed by contact, stopped doing activities the previous host did, changed my major in college, and started hanging out with different people and ppl just thought i was “going through a thing”
whenever karters out, people just comment that im “really funny today” or that im moody or something. theres a handful of people who can tell mine and karters typing and tone apart online and my therapist can tell theres a body language difference but thats only because shes looking for it
when alec is out people just say im being rude or moody or a smart ass. no one thinks anything of it and just steers clear because they assume im just pissy about something.
when kids are out we get comments like “why cant you just act your age” or “maybe you should lie down, you seem overwhelmed” but no one thinks like Oh A Dissociated Self State With The Emotional Awareness Of A Child Is Controlling This Person’s Body because thats just. not what people think.
idk don’t expect ppl tell alters apart without guidance. dont expect people to recognize you from another alter without help. and if you dont want to be outed or noticed, just don’t mention it, and people probably wont notice. obviously there are alters that people struggle to rationalize but ppl will go to great lengths to explain away odd behavior tbh don’t stress it.
edit: and im not saying ppl cant notice. lots of ppl CAN tell but not right away. its more just. have realistic expectations for ppl in your life.
do u guys understand how creepy the pledge of allegiance is though like every day when ur a kid everybody just chants how great america is every morning it’s creepy
You do that every morning???
EVERY MORNING.
wait
wait
is this a real thing i thought that was just in the simpsons
no son
Wait, other countries don’t do this.
*whispers* Not even Russia
I remember when my dad had a conversation with me
because I asked him what the Austrian pledge of allegiance was (because he’s from Austria)
and he said “we don’t have a pledge of allegiance”
and I said “why not?”
“honey, think about what training your children to mindlessly pledge to a flag, without really knowing what they’re talking about, sounds like to Austrians”
“oh. hitler.”
“exactly”
America is full of special snowflakes who get offended if people don’t take part in patriotic rituals.
Seriously. Even my EXTREMELY anti-nationalism ass feels compelled to take part in the weird pseudo-religious state worship ceremonies because I know if I don’t I’ll have half the room up my ass. There is a very real implied threat in not participating.
I spent the afternoon arranging our books by size and color (and it’s so satisfying and looks amazing) and my partner came home and stared in shock at the bookcase and then said “i’m a librarian, you can’t do this.”
him: you split up all the song of ice and fire books
me: yeah i know, they’re all primary colors, it’s perfect
him: [self-destructs]
You’re a monster
As a former bookstore employee, this hurts my soul. I mean, sure it looks nice, but how do you find anything?
it has occurred me during this process that apparently not everyone thinks about books by what color they are? like, literally when i’m looking for a book, i picture it in my mind. i have a very…tactile experience with the books i read and idk! i thought everyone did that lol.
my partner was like “how will i find [this book] for instance” and i replied “easy, it’s purple” and he looked at me like i was a witch.
Now that I think about it, I do know most of the colors of the books I own.
my books are organized by a system that would make zero sense to anyone but me. “so, here you’ll find the books i’ve read with my book club. here are the books i’ve received as ARCs. Neil Gaiman gets his own shelf because he’s a badass.” etc. lol
basically, it’s a mess.
How do you organize your books?
As a librarian who at one point in my life did in fact organize my books by color, I find OP’s rationale really interesting (& their story hilarious)! Personally, I stopped that organization scheme because I didn’t have enough different colors, so it really didn’t look great aesthetically, and it started to really bother me that authors’ works were all scattered. But I’m really interested in the tactile nature of texts, challenging traditional organizational structures, and how people interact with information in their own individual ways!

Give your Japanese skills a huge push!
The nature of the Japanese language means it’s far more effective to do a small amount each day, rather than absolutely cramming months of knowledge into one study session.
The purpose of this challenge is to do a little (or a lot) of Japanese practice each day for 100 days. This can be from anything to simply memorising a new Kanji character, to learning a whole new grammar point. Unfortunately no, watching anime doesn’t count! (〃∇〃)
But here’s some ideas to get you started!;• Practicing Hiragana or Katakana
• Memorising Kanji
• Expanding your vocabulary
• Working on your pronunciation
• Reading a short passage in Japanese
• Having a conversation IN Japanese
• Do a chapter of a textbook
• Practicing kanji strokesI will also be posting challenges to keep you motivated!
Sharing photos are optional but highly encouraged – remember substance above style, so don’t stress about making your photos super ~aesthetic~ and just focus on your Japanese!

I’ll be following this hashtag, good luck!!
がんばって!
Why are you so happy with the elections, I thought they were a sham. Also, now the Democrats are the good guys, and not the other head of the anfisbena? I thought you were beyond “my team won the match! Yohoo!” mentality.
I think it is possible to simultaneously hold the beliefs that
1. This entire system should not exist, we should not have leaders, we should not be in the position where we have to choose our own oppressors – we should live in sustainable, autonomous communities based on mutual aid.
And 2. The Republican party is worse than the Democratic party and conservative homophobic climate change denying ghouls losing is objectively a good thing
